The Tokyo National Museum resumed some exhibits as visitors booked tickets online in advance.
The measure was put in place by the museum to limit the number of visitors and prevent the spread of the virus.
The national museums in Kyoto and Nara prefectures, western Japan, and southwestern Fukuoka Prefecture also reopened to the public with countermeasures against COVID-19, the pneumonia-like disease caused by the virus.
All four museums require visitors to wear a face mask and have their temperature checked at the entrance to ensure visitors are not running a fever.
