The first thing that popped into my head when I read the title was the 2013 Tomb Raider game, I loved it! I haven't played it in a while but, if I'm not mistaken, I remember Lara (Croft) had to fight Himiko's guards in Yamatai... and the Queen wanted to extend her life by using the body of one of Lara's friends, Sam. I didn't think she was "badass" as much as I thought she was terrifying! Anyway the article was pretty interesting. It's nice to know there was equality of the sexes in Japan...
