Japanese medical researchers just gained approval to treat patients with heart disease through a unique stem cell process. The technique is called induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells -- stems cells created by inducing cells of body tissues like skin cells to revert to an embryonic-like state. This allows the stem cells to then develop into new cell types.
