KYODO NEWS - 1 hour ago - 11:34 | All, JapanA Japanese court on Wednesday ordered a former television political reporter to pay 3.3 million yen ($30,000) in damages to journalist Shiori Ito over a rape case.
In the trial at the Tokyo District Court, Ito, 30, had sought 11 million yen from Noriyuki Yamaguchi, a 53-year-old former Washington bureau chief for Tokyo Broadcasting System Television Inc., known as TBS.
The court rejected a counter-lawsuit filed by Yamaguchi, who has argued the act was consensual and sought 130 million yen in compensation from Ito, claiming his social reputation has been damaged by her remarks.
In the trial, Ito said she was raped at a hotel in 2015 following a dinner in Tokyo with Yamaguchi, who had promised assistance in getting her job.
Ito had filed a complaint with police after the incident, but prosecutors dropped the case in July 2016 citing insufficient evidence.
