Forget kabuki; sumo is better theater. If you happen to be in Tokyo during one of the three grand tournaments - 15-day events in January, May and September - you can catch some of the action at Ryogoku Kokugikan, Tokyo's National Sumo Hall.
The front seats are expensive, but if you go early, you can go to the front rows and take pictures until 4 p.m., when the championship bouts start. The front seats are basically vacant until that time, and this is a great change to take some god sumo photos.
