Japanese companies are pitching food products at a trade fair in Chiba City, near Tokyo, with the aim of expanding their shipments abroad.

The event that opened on Wednesday is part of efforts to achieve a government export goal. The government aims to expand exports of agricultural and food products by more than 30 percent to 1 trillion yen, or about 8.9 billion dollars, by 2019.

About 300 companies are showcasing products, including those designed to suit foreign tastes, for more than 1,000 overseas buyers.
