Here is a living art field, that you can go and visit if you want a break in rural Japan.
As our civilization reaches a critical juncture, the rich nature of the satoyama existence in Echigo-Tsumari can impel us to review our attitude to the environment, calling into question the modern paradigm which has caused such environmental destruction.
In fact, the Triennial is held in Summer (late July to September). I have a close friend there and had a month's vacation while hiking around them.
The area gets loads of snow (accumulation is 4-8m). So, they remove the bookshelf in autumn, and add protective covering to other large exhibits in November.
But if I understand it right the triennial is held in winter? How would you read there in the cold?
You should definitely write your own first hand account of the event and the area! This seems very interesting!
