A park in the city of Sapporo, northern Japan, is preparing for winter.
Workers began wrapping the trees at Odori Park in straw mats on Tuesday, the beginning of winter on the traditional calendar.
The mats will protect the trees from cold weather and the weight of heavy snows.
Over the next 2 weeks, the workers will cover some 2,300 trees in the park, including azaleas and lilacs.
The coverings will be removed around April.
