Hello, winter in Japan. We're freezing, how about you? My house, like many Japanese houses and apartments, has crap insulation and no central heating. It's cold up in here. If your place, like mine, gets frigid around this type of year, here are some ideas to keep you toasty.

In my first winter here, I slept in the oohs-ire (the shelf for keeping blankets etc.) because it is higher than the floor level and all the warm air goes up. It was 3-5 degrees warmer!
