A group is using drones to study the activities of brown bears on Japan's northernmost main island, Hokkaido.

The group consists of members of a Hokkaido-based NPO and IT firms in Tokyo and Hokkaido.

It is using 2 drones equipped with a camera and infrared sensor that can detect the body temperature of bears.

The group flew the drones on Wednesday in Shibetsu town in eastern Hokkaido, where brown bears live in nature. Some of them are known for attacking humans
