End of the Line for Big Industries?

We have been regularly seeing stories about big names like Toshiba and Sharp ending up with losses. Is this the end of the line for big companies in Japan? What is the next big thing for Japan? Let's share our thoughts.

I think large firms that bet on selling a huge number of basic appliances overseas are basically doomed. They lost the market to Korean and Chinese products. High-end products (like Canon's DSLR cameras) are still doing well. Big companies in the domestic market are still doing fine. Some successes like Uniqlo can be seen, but they are not very big. I think the future is with small and medium industries that make quality products.
