Tokyo Electric Power Company has debuted a new underwater robot to help in the removal of melted fuel at a crippled nuclear reactor in Fukushima.
On Thursday, a test of the robot was disclosed to the public in Yokosuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture, near Tokyo.

I'm not sure about the situation under the water in the containment vessel, but most robots that entered the plant could not be used much longer because radiation damaged the equipment. I hope this one survives long enough to send enough data out and help with cleaning up.
