A court has decided that a former civilian worker at a US base in Okinawa must compensate the family of a Japanese woman he has been convicted of killing.
The Naha district court on Wednesday approved the claim for damages filed by the bereaved family.
Kenneth Franklin Shinzato was sentenced to life in prison in December. He was found guilty of assaulting the 20-year-old woman, with the intent to rape her, and of killing her in Uruma City, Okinawa Prefecture, in 2016.
