Japanese authorities are planning to intensify a crackdown on illegal private-lodging businesses.

The move comes at a time when a new law will be put into force that will allow anyone in principle to rent out their property as private lodging if they register with local authorities.

Those running such businesses without registering will be fined after the law goes into effect on June 15th.
