Typhoon Krosa made landfall near Kure, Hiroshima Prefecture, around 3 p.m. and is expected to travel toward the Sea of Japan through the western Japan region in the evening.
The Japan Meteorological Agency predicted total rainfall will exceed 1,200 millimeters in western and eastern Japan areas that face the Pacific.
Central Japan Railway Co. has reduced Tokaido Shinkansen services between Tokyo and Shin-Osaka due to the typhoon.
