NHK has warned all foreigners living in Japan about the incoming typhoon by tweeting in all hiragana.
“Using only hiragana will make it a lot easier for them to read,” says senior NHK journalist Taguchi Hiro.
Foreigners who can only read in hiragana will acquire news about the typhoon in their first language.
While foreigners proficient enough to acquire their weather warnings in Japanese require kanji to break up huge stretches of hiragana.
“I have no idea where the noun ends and the object begins,” commented one がいこくじんのみなさん.
