One of the most difficult things about learning Japanese trying to understand its onomatopoeia usage.
Really, really hard.
But if you use them correctly, your Japanese will sound way more natural.
Even if you do not have the confidence to use onomatopoeia, familiarizing yourself with them will help you understand the seemingly strange things Japanese speakers around you are saying.
I picked up Jazz Up Your Japanese with Onomatopoeia by Hiroko Fukuda this month in an effort to better my understanding.
