The rubber eraser is said to be roughly 250 years old.
Osaka-based stationery company Seed, who has been making erasers since the 1950s, has developed a translucent eraser.
Seed says they came up with the concept of a clear eraser 5 years ago.
But it took years of testing before they arrived at the exact formula that would produce a translucent yet functional eraser that would not crumble.
The official name of the eraser is the Clear Radar, and you can look for them in stationery stores across Japan.
