As a preventative measure against the spread of COVID-19 in JapanOnce a year, the residents of the US Embassy Housing Compound in Roppongi hold a “Sidewalk Sale” to clear out old English books, clothes, sports equipment and household knick-knacks.
The event is wildly popular with Tokyo residents with long queues forming outside the gates before they open.
Entry to the compound (through the Grew Gate on the Roppongi side) is free, but requires photo ID for anyone 12 years or older.
Leave any pets behind as they won’t be permitted to enter the compound.
