KYODO NEWS - 6 hours ago - 14:19 | Japan, Coronavirus, AllLarge Japanese companies are cautious about hiring new graduates in the 2021 business year, as the full impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the global economy remains unclear, a Kyodo News survey showed Saturday.
Only 10 firms, or 9 percent, said they are planning to increase hiring of new graduates, dropping from 21 percent in the previous survey.
About 36 percent said there will be no change in their employment of new graduates, while 25 percent said they are undecided.
Those companies as well as firms with undecided hiring plans said the impact on their earnings from the virus spread is uncertain and they need more time to see how the pandemic will affect the economy.
The survey also found 83 percent are planning to conduct interviews with job seekers online amid stay-at-home requests to stem the spread of the pneumonia-causing virus.
