At least three elderly people died and more than 800 people, including four schoolchildren, were taken to the hospital Tuesday, apparently suffering from heat stroke or heat exhaustion, as the Japanese archipelago continued to bake under scorching temperatures. It was the sixth day in a row that temperatures of 35 degrees Celsius or higher were registered in some parts of the country.
It's been one of the hottest years ever, and the media won't stop talking about it... in my country, we're also going through one - reaching highs of 40º celsius - but hey, it's better than cold temperatures.
If you plan to travel to Japan in July and August, you should note that the summer here is hot and very humid, resulting in a few hundred heat exhaustion cases a day. The total is more than 600 now, for this summer. Most of these are elderly people, but you can be too tired after travel and vulnerable.
I confirm that Japanese summer heat is horrible. Because of humidity temperatures feel different. 32 celcius is already unbearable.
