Oysters are recognized as a gourmet’s choice all over the world. And even in Japan you can find a variety of oyster-dishes which are delicious and healthy.

You can eat them raw as Sashimi with a dash of Wasabi and soy sauce as well as with a bit of lemon juice as in Europe or the United States. Another Japanese eating style is with Ponzu _and _Momijioroshi (fresh grated daikon mixed with chili pepper) or the famous Kakifrai – deep fried oysters with a nice tartare sauce. Delicious!

In Japan, oysters come from various areas, mainly Hiroshima and Iwate. And if you want to taste real Japanese oysters, you have the chance to do so until the 5th of April at Shinjuku, Okubo Park. For a 200 Yen fee, you can join a Seafood-BBQ, not only offering Oysters, but many delicious Japanese specialties. Get an overview of the menu and the prices on their official website.

A special feature at this festival is the “Green Oyster”, which is originally from Marenne Oleron, France and known for it’s high quality. The green color of the oyster derives from the plankton it consumes at Claires oyster farm. The taste is said to be sweeter and more rich than other sea oysters.
