Tokyo International Book Fair: What It Is and Isn't

posted by  Yubi | 9 years ago

Tokyo International Book Fair is a good event for us bookworms, because all books are sold with discounts averaging 20%. This year, E-books were sold together with paper books.

The 19th Tokyo International Book Fair (TIBF) was held this year together with the International Electronic Publishing Expo (EPX), previously less prominent and called the Digital Publishing Fair. It has now become an integral part of the show and occupies the same exhibition space with the physical books.

That is a very characteristic image - so many ereaders! I am an avid kindle reader myself and plan to buy Sony Digital Paper reader (love the large screen that should be great for reading PDFs, kindle is useless for them) but it is still kinda expensive, so I am waiting for the next model hoping that it will get even better and/or the will drop the price for the previous version. What I really wonder if you could see any other interesting large screen ereaders?

I was there on Friday. It was nice to see a lot of kids, despite the fair being held on working days. Many had come with grandparents.

I love reading, this would definitely be the place for me, all the book fairs in my country are trash! but I hate e-reading!! It's like the magic is lost through a digital lens... I'd prefer to stick to old hardcover books, hopefully those and paperbacks won't dissapear.

The 10-inch reader by Sony was popular among the older readers. I have seen a large reader by Toshiba that has a slightly longer screen, and matches the aspect ratio of standard-size for Japanese novels.
