Do you still want to have side mirrors in your cars?

Japanese government has authorised "mirrorless cars".

Technically, cameras and screens can do a better job and replace these. but in practice, I don't know how the old drivers will feel about not having mirrors. Where should the displays for side mirrors be? Around the same place as the mirrors were?

This is good news in my opinion! I am by no means an extraordinary driver :) I am quite mediocre to be honest. Driving is hard and one of the difficulties for me is that the mirrors are located so far apart from each other and it takes a few moments (which is long) to check all of them, and you need to do that constantly! I think lots of time and effort could be saved if they were placed closer to each other as screens inside the car and the technology is totally ready for that. So I think it is a good thing that the regulators are catching up.

I too like this idea. I haven't driven much and this will make life much easier when I can see the mirror displays much closer to the dashboard. They already have the rear mirror displays, so I guess they will have both mirror and displays for some time and then the mirrors will go away.

sure yes, in the same place because you'll need to extend your head move anyway to catch a glimpse of the whole side scene.
