From what I hear Japan is rather conservative in what concerns financial instruments but here they are taking quite radical steps forward!

Coincheck Business Development Lead Kaga Kawabata said his company has “achieved a major milestone for Bitcoin”. Customers may begin paying in bitcoin from November.

The service is the first of its kind in Japan, where Bitcoin is still a novelty in daily consumer life. While a handful of businesses in Tokyo and Osaka accept bitcoin, most Japanese prefer it as a speculative instrument.

I am yet to see a shop that accepts BitCoin. The ordinary people haven't heard much about it. Those who read tech news are scared about it.
