I have come accross this article that talks about electronics market trying to attract women. I wonder how successful they really are - do you really see women around electronics shops in Akihabara?

I have been frequenting electronics parts shops at Akihabara for many years. I have seen two categories of females visiting them:

  1. University and Senmongakko (vocational school) students. While they are only 10% or less of the crowd, these young girls are there at shops like Akitsuki almost everyday. They usually buy items with a shopping list in their hands, instead of searching randomly.

  2. Older ladies, who use these items at work, and sometimes as a hobby. They take more time to browse parts, and also discuss with shop staff.

I am not really sure if the colors and all that attract females to electronics. May be they do. But I have seen cute construction kits that attract kids; some of them should work for girls, too.
