NHK has learned that a group of Japanese researchers has for the first time drawn up ethical guidelines for the use of artificial intelligence.
The Japanese Society for Artificial Intelligence, comprising 4,000 scientists, set up a committee 3 years ago to establish ethical rules for AI research.
The society formally decided on the guidelines at a board meeting on Tuesday.
The guidelines say the possibility of misuse or abuse of artificial intelligence cannot be ruled out, and that scientists must make every effort to ensure that AI is put to beneficial uses.
