Surveillance cameras will be installed on each of the roughly 3,800 subway cars in Tokyo, their operators said Tuesday, part of an effort to improve public safety ahead of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics.

Starting in 2018 or 2019, Tokyo Metro Co. will begin installing a camera above every door of each subway car, while Toei Subway will install several cameras in the ceiling of every car over the period of just under 10 years from next August.

They should also install camers at some places to capture possible evidence of groping, so that the concerned females can stand near them :-p

LOL I remember hearing about this and thought it was a joke. I do like the idea of having more cameras. I mean in a place that is this crowded and always seems to have visitors, it is just a good idea.
