The Japanese media has mixed emotions about reporting on excessive overtime. Because many newspapers still have morning and evening editions, plus 24/7 posting, 80 hour weeks are not abnormal. When I worked for a Japanese media conglomerate 100 hour weeks were routine. Part of night duty was creating the fake work logs---the ones shown to labor inspectors. There was even a manual for doing it. I still have a copy.
